Same problem.... Laptop went black after 2 1/2 years, got it repaired, then it quit working again after two weeks (same symptom). Got it repaired again since repair was under 90 day warranty, we'll see how long it lasts. There are over 2200 signatures on http://www.petitiononline.com/deadhptx/ sign and be counted! On YouTube there are videos that show how to fix it (problem seems to be the NVIDIA chip get so hot the solder melts and the chip detaches).

I have tx 1000. Problems : turn on computer & screen is black. Before screen problem, ran extremely hot and would drop out wireless connection. Paid well over $1000 . Should have last longer than a year and a half.

fortunately i found a laptop repairshop that does revival of dead laptop motherboards, using an infra red machine. Service was around 70 Dollars. You could also try the one's posted in youtube, using hot air gun or the halogen lamp method, but it is said to be very dangerous...as it turned out, the NVidia chip gets unsoldered because of the heat, unfortunately there is no way to solder it again safely without using an IR machine. by the way, im typing this on my revived tx1205us. Anyway, HP still suck!!! it took another group to actually clean their crap.

I got my tx1000 for my 21st bday in august of 2007 and spent around 1600 for it. It now does not see the wireless card and it does not boot up all the time. At times when I try to turn it on the lights come on but a blank screen. I called hp about the situation and they did nothing to help and said they would replace the wireless card for 300 when the card is only 30 and I honestly do not think the card is the issue. I think it is the motherboard itself. So I have paid for Norton for 3 years which I can not use due to the defective laptop and Microsoft Office. I dont buy HP products anymore due to this experience. I plan on sticking to Toshiba which was the first laptop I had.... I have also tried reinstalling the drivers on numerous occasions but it decides to reinstall when it feels like it. After it did reinstall the driver and the cpu was restarted it lost the driver again. I found that when it decides to reinstall the broadcom to sleep the cpu, but this has since stopped working.... Now the cpu will shutdown and restart itself. I am so frustrated with hp. They really need a recall or a refund. That was the last hp merchandise I will ever buy!!

I have the TX1201US, in less than a year the wifi vanished, brought the laptop to hp service center for repairs, they replaced motherboard! and by some goodness they also replaced my lcd that has a dead pixel, ok nice...after less than 3 months, same problem, wifi missing (luckily they have a 90day warranty for the repairs done), replaced motherboard again!!!...now it has been 4 months since the last repair, no vanishing wifi, it just completely DIED!!! all indicator lights are on but only for a second and it goes off!!! another visit to the HP service center...it is now out of warranty!!!... just for diagnosis they are charging me about 20 dollars, in 2-3 working days I am now waiting for the inevitable...telling me to pay them (because it is now out of warranty) 400 dollars for the mother board... ok nice, I'll just burn the damn thing!!!

Where do I start. First, the laptop couldn't charge the battery. So we sent it in; then the battery doesn't hold the charge for long <15mins. The wireless dies without warning. Said it was not enabled but no way to getting it enabled. Now the blank screen on a normal boot up. Can only run in a safe mode. Overheats continuously! Love the portability hate the constant problems; one after another.

tx1000 has had to be completely restored using the recovery disks three times now. Each time as a result of trying to use the handy DVD button on the right side of the screen. Currently unable to install an update that HP wants me to install. The wlan card has also gone completely inactive. Initially showed as a faulty driver but when this was repaired, the card just stopped showing up on the hardware list. I am fully unable to connect via wireless.

I did research this product prior to purchase and am very disappointed in the quality. feels like I dumped 1100 down the drain.

LATEST UPDATE: I've emailed someone from recall.org and email me the link where I can ask for recall on this laptop.

Please help me by telling me what other problems you encounter with this product.

Thank you

After warranty expired.

The laptop monitor remains blank on start up. Its a known hardware problem and HP needs to recall this, otherwise all of us should file a class action lawsuit.

Wirless stopped working in 11th month. HP replaced system board under warranty. Two weeks later the power adapter died. HP replaced the power adapter under warranty. 99 days after receiving the new system board (now out of the 12 month warranty period) and the wireless has gone again. HP brushes me off - not their problem - system board only warranteed for 90 days. According to the experience of other owners - it will only be a matter of time until it's completely dead and ready for burial.

Completely died right after warranty expired.
Screen rotation function doesn't work if you use NEWER official Nvidia drivers. Also disabled buttons located on the lcd panel. Had to stick with HP's Nvidia drivers.
Overheated whenever I run games, flash videos, movies, and music.
When it overheats, I cannot turn it on till it cools down.
Even then, the moment I load up a video, it dies again.
System rarely blue screened, it hard locked all the time.
Music was choppy and had to be solved with ASIO4ALL hack.
Vista was a joke. I ran it in win2000 mode because there was little point in slowing down and overheating my machine whenever I minimize an application.
Tablet was inaccurate mostly because it was too far from the actual LCD itself. Constantly had to realign the settings because slight changes in viewing angle changes your pen location. (Its like looking at a straw in a cup of water.)
Loads of bloat-ware. The absolute worst was the Wild Tangent's spyware. The first I think I did was install Spy-Bot. Later, offline, I tried to play a pre-installed game. Only to have Spy-Bot come up and tell me HP is trying to install spyware on my machine. I wasn't even online so HP deliberately installed spyware on my machine.
It would not throttle the CPU because it was so bogged down by Vista + HP's bloatware. Unless I set the CPU to 50% in the Power settings, it would never ever throttle down. This wasn't the case in Linux. It was able to throttle the CPU, but it still overheated and hard locked.
When I play audio or watch videos, I sometimes lose Wireless. It would just die. I cannot see any more networks. I can flip that stupid little switch over and over and over until my fingers bleed and it would do nothing. I had to shut down and let it cool off.
I did a lot to try to keep this machine alive.
The DVD-rom was always in storage when I didn't need it. Giving it another slot for air to circulate into.
I kept the thing off the table with homemade feet.
Cleaned it once a month with the compressed air.
Added a 2gig stick of ram.
It also died while I had nothing opened except a New York Times article. That was the last thing I saw on this machine's screen.

HP needs to recall this machine.

I Have a TX1000z, and it won't boot anymore. It acts like it will boot for 2 seconds and then shuts off. I also had problems with overheating, and wireless going out intermittently. I am over my warranty, so it will cost to get it fixed, but after reading these threads, I know for a fact that it is a defect.

TX1000

Laptop will not re-start until after 10-15 tries and sometimes for 2-3 days.

BACKGROUND -
It only started happening since it came back from HP Service Center who apparently fixed it for -
1) Overheating
2) Loss of wireless drop-offs (Still an issue)

HP consultant squarely said no since the laptop is out of warranty.

**** I can see that a large number of people have CONSTANTLY posted the same issues with this laptop AND REPORTED to HP.

***** The perfect timing of the issue occurring right after the Warranty is finished.

***** I would have assumed that by now HP would have acknowledged the issue and proactively contacted their customers.

Whats going on here people?
HP used to be such a TRUSTWORTHY Name!!!!
A name that we have all seen and heard around us since childhood.
What a shame they are not accepting the mistakes that they have made with TX1000.

I am not buying HP unless this mess is sorted.

Im dissapointed with this laptop. I didnt get a warranty because I believe in the product of HP. However, after a year the problem in my computer show. It didnt open and the monitors computer faded.

I called HP they said Im already over the warranty so they cant fix it for free. However, the problem is the laptops defect itself.

I check the website and i found this link with problems with HP tx1000 also
